Vaughan Recreation Guide Receives Award Of Excellence For Innovation
The City of Vaughan’s 2011/2012 Fall & Winter Recreation Guide and new eGuide have won Parks and Recreation Ontario’s (PRO) 2012 Award of Excellence for Innovation.
This award recognizes innovation in design and progressive concepts such as promotional tools and the use of technology. PRO is a not-for-profit corporation that supports the benefits of recreation through information, advocacy and the research and development of innovative products and services.
“At the City of Vaughan, we take a great deal of pride in being a community that is focused on the health and well-being of our residents,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “Whether it’s one of our state-of-the-art fitness centres, our impressive variety of programming or our amazing annual outdoor events, there is something for everyone and all the information is available through our innovative recreation guide.”
Some of the Recreation Guide’s new features include a colour-coded table of contents and guide sections and redesigned recreational skating, sports and swimming schedules. Community centre information includes an index for location specific programming.
The Recreation eGuide, a digital version of the Recreation Guide was launched on the City’s website at www.vaughan.ca in July 2011. Features of the eGuide include page flipping, direct links to program registration, an advanced search function, favourite flags and reader viewing options.
“Earning the Parks and Recreation Ontario award took hard work and a collaborative staff effort,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “The guides ensure residents are aware of the excellent programs and facilities and help to encourage greater participation.”
The City of Vaughan publishes two Recreation Guides annually, spring/summer and fall/winter, and distributes them to approximately 93,000 households, community centres and libraries. The latest editions of the Recreation Guide and eGuide for 2012 spring and summer programs are currently available.
