Seventeen new firefighters join Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service

Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) welcomed new firefighters today in a special graduation ceremony and honoured 18 recent promotions. The recruits were celebrated for advancing through a long, rigorous and competitive process to become a Vaughan firefighter.

VFRS received 700 applications to be part of the service. The 17 who were celebrated today have now completed the 12-week recruit training program. This training gives them the knowledge and practical skills to perform their duties quickly and efficiently in an emergency.

During the ceremony, the recruits were given their completion certificates and the newly promoted officers were presented with their designated helmets. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, City Manager Steve Kanellakos and fire Chief Larry Bentley each spoke and expressed their gratitude to the firefighters for the work they do every day to keep Vaughan safe.
