City is installing 151 new water sampling stations

The City of Vaughan is committed to continuing to provide residents with high-quality drinking water. As part of this commitment, and to improve the ease of access to water testing, the City is installing 151 new sampling stations across its water distribution network on municipally owned properties.

Vaughan's drinking water continues to be safe and meets all regulatory requirements set by the Province of Ontario. To meet the requirements for water quality sampling based on the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002, the City must complete a certain number of water samples each year.

Currently, water samples are taken from approximately 130 public and privately owned buildings, such as schools and community centres. City staff are only able to collect water samples from these locations within the building’s operating hours. To improve efficiencies and allow for sampling at any time, the new water sampling stations will be installed on City property between June 2020 and December 2021.

The City of Vaughan is committed to delivering Service Excellence, as outlined in the Council-approved 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan. Enhanced and efficient water sampling reinforces the City’s commitment to Operational Performance, a strategic priority which focuses on fostering a culture of continuous improvement by supporting innovation and investing in infrastructure that elevates the quality of life in Vaughan.

The City worked with a consultant to undertake a study which determined the number of sampling stations required, as well as the locations for installations. Various factors, including water demand, population, public facilities and pipe material, were considered.
