Vaughan's Corporate Structure Review Positions The City For The Future

Vaughan Council has approved the key recommendations in a corporate structure review report entitled “Taking it to the Next Level.” The proposed changes to the municipality’s administrative structure will be funded without an increase in the City’s 2012 operating budget.

“The measures approved by Council will help the City achieve greater operating efficiencies, promote innovation and enhance productivity,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “As the City of Vaughan transforms into a major urban centre in the GTA, we will work diligently to position the City for the future. We will be ready to address the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities.”

A key recommendation will establish a Commission of Corporate and Strategic Services by bringing together City departments that are critical to implementing and managing change. These include Strategic Planning, Human Resources and Information Technology. In addition, a new department of Innovation and Continuous Improvement will be created within this Commission to support other departments with the objective of increasing efficiencies, keeping costs down and improving processes by utilizing new technologies.

The Review’s recommendations will be funded by utilizing vacant staff positions, accumulated savings, as well as efficiencies identified within the City.

“Change is the biggest challenge we have to face, so what we have done is restructured an existing commission and positioned it to provide support to the rest of the organization,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “We have to continually look at how we do business and how we deliver services.”
