It’s time to get your swimsuit and work out gear ready! The City of Vaughan is preparing to reopen its indoor pools and fitness centres as the Province of Ontario moves into Step 3 of its Roadmap to Reopening. In line with the City’s disciplined, measured and responsible approach in responding to COVID-19, the following amenities and services will be reopening effective Wednesday, July 21:
- Indoor fitness facilities
- Indoor pools
Pre-registration is required and will begin on Monday, July 19 at 8:30 a.m. Existing members must reactivate their membership in advance. The City put all fitness and pool memberships on a temporary hold for the duration of the community centres’ closures. Members must have an active membership to book a time block for a workout, recreational/length swim, and aquafitness classes. Members who do not reactivate their membership will be required to pay a single-visit fee. To reactivate a membership, email RecCSD@vaughan.ca or call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281.
Fitness centres
Vaughan fitness centres will reopen based on the guidance of public health authorities. This includes controlled access, capacity limits of up to 50 per cent where physical distancing permits, and scheduled 75-minute workout time blocks, with a 15-minute shutdown in between appointments for cleaning and sanitization.
All fitness centres will reopen with the exception of Garnet A. Williams while renovations are underway. Members will be able to exercise at a temporary fitness facility secured by the City in the plaza behind Promenade Mall at 7700 Bathurst St., Unit 1. The Maple fitness centre will re-open once the COVID-19 vaccination clinic closes, to be determined by York Region Public Health.
Members are advised to reactive their membership in advance, as an active membership is required to book a time block, otherwise a single visit fee will be applied. Fitness classes
In-person outdoor fitness classes will continue to run at select Vaughan community centres for the remainder of July. Classes are free for members and non-members must pay a single class fee A new fitness class schedule, featuring indoor classes, will start in August. Virtual fitness classes, delivered via Zoom, continue to be offered. For more details, visit vaughan.ca/fitness.
Indoor pools
Pools will operate based on the guidance of public health authorities. This includes controlled access, capacity limits of up to 50 per cent where physical distancing permits, and scheduled 60-minute pool time blocks, with a 30-minute shutdown in between for cleaning and sanitization. Spas and diving boards will be available for use. Water slides will remain closed until further notice.
