As winter comes to an end to make way for spring and warmer weather, the City of Vaughan’s five outdoor skating rinks and two natural rinks are now closed for the season.
This includes the rinks at Chancellor Community Centre, Dufferin Clark Community Centre, Father E. Bulfon Community Centre, Garnet A. Williams Community Centre and Vellore Village Community Centre and the natural rinks at North Thornhill Community Centre and Maple Community Centre.
Also, due to the warmer temperatures, the City’s first-ever snowshoe loaner program is finished for the season – but not without recognizing its great success! The program launched on Tuesday, Feb. 2, and more than 500 pairs of snowshoes were made available to residents to borrow free of charge via curbside pickup at select community centres over the duration of the program. The program was offered weekly and sold out every single week. By popular demand, the snowshoe loaner program will return in winter 2021/2022.
Although these outdoor amenities have closed for the season, others are reopening for some springtime fun!
Fitness centres
Select City fitness centres are open and have controlled access with a limited capacity of 10 members at a time and scheduled time blocks to sign up in advance. Classes and time blocks become available four days and two hours in advance. For example, a Monday 5:30 a.m. workout session will be open for registration on the Thursday before at 3:30 a.m. Workout blocks are 75 minutes each, with a 30-minute shutdown in between appointments for cleaning and sanitization. Register online at vaughan.perfectmind.com. For more information on how to register, visit vaughan.ca/recreation or contact Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or accessvaughan@vaughan.ca.
Pools
Select community centre pools are open to the public for recreational and length swimming, as well as aquafitness. Availability is limited and will be reassessed in the coming weeks. Recreational and length swimming is available to pool plan holders and Vaughan Fitness members. Pre-paid single visits by non-members are available at a special promotional rate of $3.25 (plus HST) for a limited time. Aquafitness classes are open to plan holders and fitness members only until further notice. These facilities and activities are available on a limited basis and at a reduced capacity. Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com to use a pool. Swimmers can register four days and two hours in advance of the scheduled recreational, length swim or aquafitness time block. For assistance, call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email accessvaughan@vaughan.ca. To view pool guidelines, the check-in procedure and schedules, visit vaughan.ca/swim.
Vaughan Public Libraries
On Monday, March 8, Bathurst Clark Resource Library, Civic Centre Resource Library and Pierre Berton Resource Library reopened to customers with strict occupancy limits and safety measures in place. The three resource libraries will observe their standard hours of operation, and curbside pickup will be discontinued as customers will be able to claim their own holds. Service at Maple Library has been temporarily suspended due to future operations as a vaccination centre. While the library was already closed to public access, this means that curbside pickup has been suspended at this site and all remaining holds have been transferred to the Civic Centre Resource Library.
