Improvements are coming to Woodbridge Avenue
Attend a virtual Public Information Centre on March 23 to get involved
Enhancements are in the works for the Woodbridge Avenue corridor. Planning and design concepts are moving forward through the City of Vaughan’s Woodbridge Avenue Improvements and Streetscaping Project, focusing on beautifying the area and respecting its history. Underground infrastructure work will also take place at the same time. The community is invited to learn more about this project and join the conversation – virtually – by attending an online Public Information Centre on Tuesday, March 23. Details and registration are available at vaughan.ca/WoodbridgeAve.

Woodbridge Avenue is a commercial and residential street located in the heart of Woodbridge Village. The Woodbridge Avenue corridor and the surrounding area – from Islington Avenue to Kipling Avenue – have been rapidly changing in the last decade with high-density development, including residential and mixed-use buildings, resulting in a larger urbanized area.
The Woodbridge Avenue Streetscape Plan (PDF) addresses this growth and guides future development as part of the Woodbridge Avenue Improvements and Streetscaping Project. This plan provides a guideline for the layout and detailed design of the public and private streetscape spaces, including pedestrian and bicycle connections. Under this framework, the design will:
- promote walking, cycling and transit use
- reduce conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles
- support daily community life and events
- capture inspirational, educational and heritage elements
- build on the convenient access to the trail along the Humber River system
As part of this process, an extensive review of the infrastructure on Woodbridge Avenue was also undertaken in 2020 to prioritize what needed to be completed, and in what order, including:
- road rehabilitation
- watermain replacements
- sanitary sewer upgrades
- streetlighting and traffic light replacements and additions
This work will be completed at the same time as the streetscape project to minimize future disruptions. Pending approvals, the detailed design work is expected to be completed by the end of 2021 and construction is expected to begin in early 2022 with anticipated completion by summer 2023.
While Woodbridge Avenue is being improved, it is still open for business! Citizens are encouraged to continue to support local stores, restaurants and organizations throughout the project. Once the improvements are complete, they will appropriately service the existing and future residents and businesses in the Woodbridge Village for years to come.
Public input and engagement for this project have been integral since 2015 – and the City is once again encouraging citizens to get involved in the next phase. Register to attend a virtual Public Information Session on Tuesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. to learn more about the planned work, view maps and schedules, and ask questions about the proposed improvements, traffic impacts and access to properties within the area. The session will be held via Zoom and will be followed by a live question and answer period. Interested individuals can register by emailing the consulting team directly at pgarel@ibigroup.com or by visiting or by visiting vaughan.ca/WoodbridgeAve. For individuals who are unable to participate in the session, the presentation and all related materials will be available online on this webpage as of Monday, March 15.
