Village of Kleinburg is a Top Pick on Best of Ontario's List of Charming Small Towns
Oct. 1, 2013
The historic Village of Kleinburg in Vaughan has been recognized as one of the best charming small towns to visit by Days Out Ontario, a trip-planning website and travel blog committed to highlighting the best the province has to offer.
“This well-deserved recognition reflects the City of Vaughan’s ongoing efforts to support growth, tourism and economic viability in our communities,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “The Village of Kleinburg is a cultural landmark with a rich history, and it is a place for families to enjoy and small businesses to thrive.”
In 2011 the City implemented the Kleinburg Economic Development Strategy, titled A Mainstreet Revitalization Project, to generate long-term economic revitalization in the Kleinburg downtown and commercial core area. Working in collaboration with the Kleinburg Business Improvement Association, the strategy is successfully raising the tourism profile of the town as an outdoor and recreational destination.
“This is an exciting recognition for Kleinburg,” said Ward 1 Councillor Marilyn Iafrate. “The City’s vision for Kleinburg as a sustainable, community-focused outdoor and recreational destination is coming to life. The town has many things to see and do for residents and tourists.”
As one of four heritage conservation areas in the City of Vaughan, Kleinburg is rich in architectural heritage and has a range of outdoor recreation space for year-round activities such as walking, hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, canoeing, tennis and other sports. In addition to local shops and dining, Kleinburg is home to a number of community festivals and cultural attractions, such as:
- The McMichael Canadian Art Collection
- Copper Creek Golf Club
- The Kortright Centre for Conservation
- Annual Kleinburg Binder Twine Festival
- Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Tour
