Children can craft, game and exercise at home on May 31

Do you have plans for your children for the upcoming P.A. Day? The City of Vaughan is inviting kids of all ages to take part – from a distance – in its virtual P.A. Day programming on Monday, May 31. Enjoy a variety of online activities, livestreamed via Zoom. City instructors will lead everyone in decorating and planting flowerpots, building, decorating and flying a kite, baking S’mores and more. Pre-registration is required and now open at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

Join in the fun with a lineup of online activities and adventures on Monday, May 31. Programs include:

  • Brain Games Challenge! (ages seven to 12): Challenge your brain during an hour of riddles, brain teasers and quizzes to keep your mind sharp.
  • Driveway Drills (ages seven to 12): Tear up the driveway with mad basketball drills for shooting, passing, rebounding, dribbling and defence. Improve your ball-handling scoring moves and footwork to help you create a game-time advantage.
  • Little Green Thumbs (ages four to seven): Spring is in the air! Experience the excitement and wonder of growing things with a hands-on introduction to gardening. Decorate your own flowerpots, prepare the soil, plant the seeds, and water, water, water!
  • Ooey Gooey Oven-Baked S'mores (ages four to seven): You don't have to be out camping to enjoy s’mores. Roasting marshmallows one at a time is fun and all, but we know you’re in it for the end game! Indoor oven-baked s’mores have all the standard ingredients of the traditional treat: marshmallows, Graham crackers and chocolate, but don’t involve a campfire ... or getting bitten by mosquitos.
  • Recreational Ballet (ages seven to 12): The first ‘step’ to becoming a ballerina! Learn basic ballet poses and steps supporting flexibility, strength and balance – while enhancing self-assurance and developing an appreciation for music and dance.
  • Self-defence (ages seven to 12): Can you stop an attacker? Through role play, learn to recognize different types of attacks and effective defence skills, including control, restraint, striking, impact and escape techniques.
  • Slippery Slime (ages seven to 12): Icky sticky (messy, but fun!) slime making. Experience crafting like never before by experimenting with gooey ingredients to create lots of squishy slime.
  • Sports Conditioning (ages seven to 12): Are you in need of more physical athletic training outside of the sport you play? Increase your athletic performance – speed, agility, power and strength – with a combination of sport and bodyweight exercises. No sports equipment needed; everyday household items will be used.
  • Ultimate Full-body Workout (ages seven to 12): Get active, get moving with high-action, high-intensity, uplifting exercises that target the entire body. Build strength, speed, stamina, agility and balance using your bodyweight as resistance – no equipment required.
  • Up, Up and Away: Kite Flying (ages seven to 12): Up, up and away! How high will your kite fly? Build and decorate your own kite, wait for a breeze, then fly it out in an open field. Discover how lift and pressure work together to make things fly and the many types of kites used throughout history. Supplies required: scissors, tape, straws, 8.5- by 11-inch paper, thread or string.
  • Here Comes the Fun! (children with special needs ages 10 and older): Have a fun time with your pals playing active games! Improve your fitness with light exercises and stretches in a motivating, social environment. Note: Participants must first be waitlisted in the program; integration staff will contact the parent/guardian to assess the needs of their child and identify their eligibility for the program; then complete a Special Needs Information Form (PDF) and register the participant.
Virtual P.A. Day Programs are one hour in length and cost $15. For more information, including direct links to online registration visit  vaughan.ca/recreation. For assistance registering, call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email RecCSD@vaughan.ca.
