In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council recently presented 64 individuals with a City of Vaughan Volunteer Recognition award during a special ceremony at Vaughan City Hall.

“Volunteers have a tremendous effect on the strength of our community,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “I want to thank the award recipients for their caring, compassionate and generous nature. Everyday volunteers devote their time and energy to many important causes. They are the manifestation of the higher values of public service and civic responsibility .”

National Volunteer Week pays tribute to the millions of Canadian volunteers who donate their time and energy. This year’s theme was Volunteers: Passion, Action, Impact. This past March the City invited non-profit and community organizations to nominate individuals for a City of Vaughan Volunteer Recognition Award.

“Volunteers do not seek recognition, but it is fitting that others recognize and praise their efforts,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “Each year the City reaches out to the community to recognize these special individuals.”

Family and friends attended the special event. Recipients received a Volunteer Recognition Certificate and a City of Vaughan lapel pin from Mayor Bevilacqua. The event also featured musical entertainment by Luke Matijczyk and light refreshments.
