Community Comes Together to Give Vaughan a 20-Minute Makeover
Vaughan’s 20-Minute Makeover swept through the City on Friday, April 20 as residents, schools and businesses participated in the annual community cleanup. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council joined students and staff from Kleinburg Public School for this year’s event, held as an early celebration of Earth Day, Sunday, April 22.
“I am proud to see such outstanding support for the 20-Minute Makeover by the residents, businesses and young people in our community,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “We have made great strides in Vaughan towards building a more sustainable future, from our Greening Vaughan recycling program to the opening of our new eco-friendly City Hall. The participation that we see today demonstrates the strong sense of civic pride the people of Vaughan have in their city.”
Beginning at 2 p.m., residents, schools and businesses were asked to perform a 20-minute cleanup in their local neighbourhood. This year, more than 7,000 people and 20 schools participated in the event, held in partnership with Pitch-In Canada, a national non-profit group dedicated to environmental initiatives. In addition to providing free garbage and recycling bags, the City of Vaughan arranged for garbage pickup for participating groups.
“The City of Vaughan is participating for the eighth consecutive year in this important event,” said City Manager Clayton Harris. “Our involvement in the 20-Minute Makeover reinforces the City’s support of a wide range of initiatives that improve our environment and create a greener future.”
