Waste reminders during the holidays
Learn about winter collection tips, holiday schedule changes and Christmas tree collection
With the December break in full swing, the City of Vaughan is reminding residents about proper waste set out during the winter months, holiday waste schedule changes, Christmas tree collection, upcoming Double-Up Days and the 2021 Waste Calendar.
Waste during winter months
To help ensure waste is able to be collected during winter months, all materials, including Christmas trees, should be kept off the road and snowbanks. Waste should be set out on the right side of the driveway when facing the house, approximately one metre (three feet) from the curbside to avoid snowplows. For more information or to watch the City’s winter waste video, visit the City’s website for more information.
Holiday waste schedule changes
There is no waste collection on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021. Collection on these dates will be moved one day to Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021. For more information, please visit the City’s website for details.
Christmas tree collection
For two weeks, starting Tuesday, Jan. 5 until Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, residents can place Christmas trees out on their regular waste collection day. When placing trees curbside, remove all tinsel, ornaments and plastic bags. Christmas trees larger than 2.13 metres (seven feet) need to be cut in half to be collected. Ensure the tree is placed off the road and snowbanks so collection staff can access safely.
Double-Up Days
Double-Up Days are here! Scheduled for the week of Jan. 5 or Jan. 12, on regular garbage days, residents can place up to six items of garbage for collection without paid tags. Large or bulky items, such as furniture, can also be placed outside for pickup. Each bulky item counts as one item towards the limit. Bags should be set out by 7 a.m. on collection day. Guidelines for setting out large or bulky items can be found on the City’s website at vaughan.ca/waste.
2021 Waste Calendar
In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the City continues to modify and transition many services and programs online to support citizens and businesses. As part of this approach, the 2021 Waste Collection Schedule (PDF) has been redesigned and is easily accessible online, as well as in a condensed hard-copy version.
The new 2021 Waste Collection Schedule is more responsive and convenient for readers, highlighting the entire year on one page. The schedule also includes Double-Up Days, leaf and yard waste collection and other important waste reminders.
Residents can also download the free Recycle Coach app to receive waste-less tips and a personalized waste schedule with optional alerts on what to put to the curb each week. These offerings all reflect the City’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
