Email RecCSD@vaughan.ca to reactivate your memberships in advance

Vaughan Fitness and pool plan members will be welcomed back at select locations starting Monday, March 8, on a limited basis. Pre-registration for fitness and pool appointments opens on Friday, March 5 at 8:30 a.m.

Be sure to reactivate your membership before you book a workout, swim or aquafitness class by emailing RecCSD@vaughan.ca or calling Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281. Members must have an active membership to pre-register. Pool and aquafitness plan holders who do not reactivate their memberships will be required to pay the single visit fee of $3.25 (plus HST).

This news comes following the Province of Ontario’s recent announcement that York Region – including Vaughan – has been placed in the Red-Control zone. As part of the City’s disciplined, measured and responsible approach to COVID-19, strict measures are in place to protect all users and staff from the virus. Other community centre amenities will remain closed to the public until further notice. Please note, Maple Community Centre and Father E. Bulfon Community Centre will be used as municipally supported vaccination sites and will not be reopening for recreational use.

Fitness centres

Select fitness centres will open and have controlled access, limited capacity of 10 members, and scheduled time blocks for you to sign up four days and two hours in advance. For example, a Monday 5:30 a.m. workout session will be available for registration on the Thursday before at 3:30 a.m. Workout blocks will be 75 minutes each, with a 30-minute shutdown in between appointments for cleaning and sanitization. Register online at vaughan.perfectmind.com starting the week of March 8. For more information on how to register, visit vaughan.ca/recreation or contact Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or accessvaughan@vaughan.ca.

You must wear a mask when entering, exiting and travelling through the facility. Before arriving, ensure you complete a provincial public health self-assessment. Upon arrival, you will present your fitness membership card, sanitize your hands, undergo a temperature check and complete the Daily Declaration of Health Screening before entering the facility. Information about safety protocols is also outlined in this video.

Fitness amenities that will remain closed include changerooms, saunas, lockers, showers, lost and found, and the fitness track. Some equipment has been removed, including yoga gear, ab mats and neck pads.

Fitness classes will continue to run virtually. A new set of virtual fitness classes will be available via Zoom and is free for Vaughan Fitness members. Free full-length fitness classes (40- to 60-minutes long) are also streamed Monday through Saturday at 10 a.m. on the Recvaughan YouTube channel.

Given the limited capacity available at select fitness centres, the City will continue the fitness equipment loaner program to allow members to work out at home. A modified in-person fitness class schedule will resume on Monday, March 15.  Pre-registration is required, and classes will be available to members and non-members. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/fitness

Pools

Select community centre pools will reopen to the public for recreational and length swimming, as well as aquafitness. Availability will be limited and reassessed in the coming weeks. Recreational and length swimming will be available to pool plan holders and Vaughan Fitness members. Pre-paid single visits by the public will be available at a special promotional rate of $3.25 (plus HST) for a limited time. Aquafitness classes are open to plan holders and fitness members only until further notice. These facilities and activities will be available on a limited basis and at a reduced capacity. Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com to use a pool. Swimmers can register four days and two hours in advance. For assistance, call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or email accessvaughan@vaughan.ca

Before arriving at the community centre pool, you must take the provincial public health self-assessment. Masks must be worn upon entry, exit, while travelling through the facility, on the pool deck and in the changeroom. A mask or face covering is not required in the pool. There will be enhanced daily cleaning and disinfection of high traffic surfaces and areas, including in changerooms. Access to changerooms will be limited, and you are encouraged to come as prepared as possible to swim. Lockers and showers will not be available until further notice.

To view pool guidelines, the check-in procedure and schedules, visit vaughan.ca/swim.

If you can’t make your fitness or swim appointment, cancel by emailing RecCSD@vaughan.ca. Fitness centres and pools have limited capacity, and cancelling your session 24 hours in advance gives another resident the chance to enjoy the time.

Modified in-person and virtual recreation programs

To keep the fun going as winter comes to a close, the City has released a spring Recreation eGuide featuring the biggest line-up ever of virtual programs, livestreamed via Zoom. There’s something fun for everyone! Programs will cover a variety of areas of interest, including baking and cooking, arts and crafts and slime making, STEM and LEGO, ballet, hip hop and musical theatre, basketball and ninja training, Disney-inspired workouts, money management, resume-writing and job interview skills, filmmaking workshops, and kindergarten readiness series.

Virtual spring programs start Monday, April 5 and run once a week for up to 10 weeks, for 45 minutes to one hour. Virtual April Break programs for children run April 12-16 for 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. A list of materials and supplies will be emailed to participants in advance. Assistance from a parent or guardian may be required. Program details and direct links to online registration are available at vaughan.ca/recreation.

The Recreation Services department also offers modified in-person April Break camps, aquatic leadership courses and special needs programs at select community centres. Online registration is open at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

In-person April Break Camps will operate under heightened precautionary procedures set out by the Province of Ontario and York Region Public Health. With no more than eight campers, each group will be assigned its own space for defined activity periods and a designated camp counsellor who will remain with the same group of children all week.
