Wendy Law joins Vaughan as City Solicitor
Ms. Law to lead Vaughan’s Legal and
Real Estate Departments
Interim City Manager Tim Simmonds is pleased to
announce that Wendy Law is joining the City of Vaughan as the new City
Solicitor. Ms.
Law’s first day is May 6.
Ms. Law has
more than nine years of senior management experience. She recently served as Deputy
City Solicitor with the City of Mississauga and was lead counsel on major city-building
projects. Ms. Law will be a member of the City’s Corporate Management Team
helping implement the 2018 to 2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic
Plan.
The
Office of the City Solicitor provides strategic legal advice to support Council
and members of administration to make informed business decisions. The Office practices
several areas of law including: general municipal; real estate; planning and
development; procurement; municipal contract; employment; litigation;
prosecutions; and public policy. Ms. Law will further oversee the Real Estate department,
which administers land acquisitions and dispositions, along with all assessments
for cash-in-lieu of parkland dedication. Ms. Law will report to the Office of
the City Manager.
The City
Solicitor role is a trusted partner for Council. The position helps ensure
Vaughan successfully moves ahead with completing transformational city-building
developments. Since 2010, the City has issued more than 45,000 building permits,
representing nearly $11 billion. This record is made possible because of a
professional administration that implements Council-approved priorities.
Ms. Law graduated
from the University of Toronto with a joint specialist degree in history and
political science. She received her law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School at
York University. She holds a Master of Public Policy, Administration and Law
and a graduate diploma in Democratic Administration from York University. She has
been a member of the Ontario Bar since 2002. In 2016, Ms. Law completed the
Business Leadership Program for In-House Counsel from the University of
Toronto’s Rotman School of Management and is a Certified In-House Counsel -
Canada.
