What’s open and closed in Vaughan for Canada Day weekend

Service changes and modified hours from July 1 to July 3

 

It’s nearly time to celebrate Canada Day, and as you prepare for the long weekend, the City of Vaughan is reminding everyone of facility closures, modified hours and alternate programming from Saturday, July 1 to Monday, July 3. Here is all you need to know to plan ahead so you can spend quality time with family and friends.

 

Municipal facilities

Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall – will be closed from Saturday, July 1 to Monday, July 3, reopening on Tuesday, July 4. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, will continue uninterrupted.

 

Community centres and recreational programming

Vaughan community centres will be closed on Saturday, July 1 and will reopen for regularly scheduled recreational drop-in activities on Sunday, July 2. Summer recreation programs and swim lessons, as well as summer camps, begin on Tuesday, July 4.

The Thornhill Outdoor Pool will be open for recreational, length swimming and an aquafitness class on Canada Day. Pre-registration and pre-payment are available at vaughan.perfectmind.com. For details, visit vaughan.ca/swim.

 

Celebrate Canada Day with us

No plans yet for the long weekend? Come out to the City’s award-winning annual Canada Day event on Saturday, July 1 at Boyd Conservation Area (8739 Islington Ave.) from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., headlined by Sam Roberts Band! This free, fun-filled family event will include entertainment, activities, food vendors, a business zone and much more. Guests will also enjoy giveaways (while quantities last) and food will be available for purchase.

Vaughan Public Libraries

All Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) branches will be closed on Saturday, July 1. The branches will be open on Sunday, July 2 and Monday, July 3 during regular business hours. To view the hours of operation at all VPL branches, visit vaughanpl.info.

 

Looking for something to do on Canada Day? Join VPL’s TD Summer Reading Club and report on your child’s reading each week to earn a badge and be entered for a weekly prize draw! Staying in? Have fun at home with VPL! With an internet connection and a VPL library card, you can enjoy many free online resources available through VPL’s website, including access to eBooks and eAudiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials, and more.

 

Waste collection

There is no waste collection on Saturdays or Mondays, so waste collection for the week of July 3 will not change. Please have your waste set out by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day.

 

You can register online to purchase garbage tags, blue boxes and green bins and exchange broken City-branded bins through Service Vaughan. Download the Recycle Coach app through the Apple App Store or Google Play for a personalized collection schedule, custom pick-up reminders and the “What Goes Where?” search tool. Vaughan Animal Services

The Vaughan Animal Services Shelter will be open during regular business hours on Saturday, July 1, and will be closed to the public on Sunday, July 2 and Monday, July 3. You can purchase pet licensing tags online at any time through Service Vaughan. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/AnimalServices

 

Service Vaughan

The City’s contact centre at Vaughan City Hall will be closed on Saturday, July 1 and resume regular hours on Tuesday, July 4. However, a live agent will be available by phone to respond to municipal emergencies over the weekend and on Monday, July 3. If you call to report a municipal emergency, please stay on the line to be connected to the after-hours answering service.
