City service changes and modified hours on Monday, Oct. 11

It’s almost time to say “thanks” and eat delicious food with loved ones this holiday weekend. But do you know what’s open and closed in Vaughan on Thanksgiving? The City of Vaughan is reminding everyone of the following facility closures and modified hours in effect on Monday, Oct. 11.

Municipal facilities

Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre – remain closed to the public until further notice in response to COVID-19. Essential services, such as fire and emergency response and by-law and enforcement services, continue uninterrupted daily, including on Thanksgiving. Non-essential administrative services will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 12, by phone, email and online.

Community centres and recreational programming

All Vaughan community centres will be closed on Monday, Oct. 11. The vaccination clinic at Maple Community Centre will remain open. Fitness, swim and skating sessions will be unavailable and will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 12. For information on classes and recreational activities, visit vaughan.ca/recreation. On Thanksgiving, citizens can still enjoy a fun exercise session at home with free, full-length fitness classes (40- to 60-minutes long) available on Recreation Services’ YouTube channel.

The City continues to work with all levels of government to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens, businesses and staff. Following the release of the Province of Ontario’s regulation and guidance on proof of vaccination, the City is adhering to its direction on vaccine requirements for those who access City facilities or plan to participate in fall recreation programs. For details on vaccine requirements in community centres, read the City’s recent public service announcement.

Outdoor park amenities

The following outdoor amenities will remain open on Monday, Oct. 11:

  • Baseball fields
  • Basketball courts
  • Bocce courts
  • Off-leash dog park
  • Outdoor exercise equipment
  • Playgrounds
  • Skateboard parks
  • Soccer fields
  • Tennis and pickleball courts
  • Trails
  • Volleyball courts

The City urges the public to continue to do their part to help stop the spread of COVID-19 while visiting outdoor amenities. It’s important to follow all York Region public health guidelines – including washing and sanitizing hands thoroughly and often before and after using the facilities, and wearing a face mask or covering when physical distancing cannot be maintained, among others. Remember, playgrounds are not sanitized.

Vaughan Public Libraries

All Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) branches will be closed on Monday, Oct. 11. All VPL branches will reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 12, with the exception of Maple Library for renovations. To view the hours of operation at all branches, visit vaughanpl.info.

Have fun with VPL at home on Thanksgiving! Citizens can still access many free digital items – including eBooks and audiobooks, films and television programs, music streaming services, e-learning courses, bilingual materials and more – through VPL at Home.

Waste collection

There is no waste collection on Mondays, so waste collection for the week will not be impacted. Please have waste set out by 7 a.m. on your regular waste pick-up day. For the complete curbside collection schedule, visit vaughan.ca/WasteCalendar.

Citizens can register online at any time to purchase garbage tags, blue boxes and green bins and exchange broken City-branded bins through Service Vaughan. For more information on all things waste in Vaughan, visit vaughan.ca/waste.

The Vaughan Animal Services Shelter remains closed to the public on Monday, Oct. 11. Appointment-only adoption and pet recovery services will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
