Waste collection will not be affected on Monday, Feb. 15

The Family Day long weekend is coming up and the City of Vaughan is reminding residents to stay vigilant in the fight against COVID-19 by following the health and safety measures put in place by the provincial government and York Region Public Health.

Please be mindful of the following facility closures, modified hours and alternate programming on Monday, Feb. 15:

Municipal facilities
Most facilities – including Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre – remain closed until June 2021 at the earliest in response to COVID-19. Non-essential administrative services will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 16 by phone, email or online. Essential services continue uninterrupted.

Recreational programming and activities
The City’s five outdoor rinks will be open from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. for some winter family fun. For information on registration and important safety guidelines, visit vaughan.ca/skate. The rinks are at Chancellor Community Centre, Dufferin Clark Community Centre, Father E. Bulfon Community Centre, Garnet A. Williams Community Centre and Vellore Village Community Centre.

Residents can also enjoy the fresh air at the City’s toboggan hill at North Maple Regional Park (11085 Keele St.) and off-leash dog park at 299 Racco Parkway. The Great Walks of Vaughan nature trails and community walks also continue to be open to explore. Visit vaughan.ca/GreatWalks for additional information, including maps, locations, distances and more.

There’s also the option to try out snowshoeing! The City recently launched a snowshoe loaner program that is free for residents. Bookings can be made online at vaughan.perfectmind.com. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/GreatWalks.

To keep the community safe and help curb the spread of COVID-19, users of outdoor amenities are reminded to follow all York Region public health guidelines – including practising physical distancing, washing hands thoroughly and often, and wearing a face mask or covering, among others.

The City’s community and fitness centres remain closed in response to COVID-19. For those looking to get active indoors, there are many online opportunities.

New virtual recreation resources are shared on the Recreation Services webpage on an ongoing basis, including arts and crafts, Vaughan Playschool educational worksheets, and Vaughan Playhouse Academy drama activities. To keep the community engaged and entertained, the department also runs fun, family-friendly social media contests. For regular updates on recreation programs, visit vaughan.ca/recreation.

Fitness classes are available via Zoom, free to Vaughan Fitness Members. Classes include yoga, total body conditioning, barre, HIIT circuit training and Zumba. For details and links to online registration visit vaughan.ca/fitness. Free, full-length fitness classes (40- to 60-minutes long) are also streamed Monday through Saturday at 10 a.m. on the recvaughan YouTube channel. And the Vaughan Fitness team has filmed family-friendly, easy-to-follow five-minute exercises in a new Vaughan FITbreak series. Tune in to the sessions, streamed live weekdays at noon, on @recvaughan IGTV. For more information on virtual fitness offerings, visit vaughan.ca/fitness.

Vaughan Animal Services
The Vaughan Animal Services Shelter remains closed on Family Day, including the appointment-only adoption and pet recovery service. However, residents can still purchase pet licensing tags online through the Service Vaughan portal. For more information, visit vaughan.ca/AnimalServices.
