A year worth celebrating

Vaughan prepares for 25th anniversary in 2016

The City of Vaughan is marking an important milestone in 2016 – its 25th anniversary. As a dynamic and growing municipality with a diverse population, a rich history and strong civic pride, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua is inviting residents and businesses to participate in the celebration.

Officially incorporated as a city in 1991, Vaughan was the first city in York Region and remains one of the fastest growing municipalities in Canada. Its roots date back to the 1700s when the first townships were created. The 25th anniversary is an opportunity to remember Vaughan’s history, promote the City’s accomplishments and look ahead to the future of the growing community.

Beginning in January 2016 a number of events will be held in recognition of this milestone, including a signature anniversary celebration in the fall. Opportunities are available for businesses and residents to partner with the City to help make 2016 a year to remember.

QUOTE

“Vaughan has experienced significant transformational change over the past 25 years – from our population which has more than tripled, to an increase in diversity and the number of languages spoken, to Vaughan’s changing landscape that includes more than 10,000 businesses and expanding industries – there is indeed much to celebrate. With major city-building initiatives underway including the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension, there is also a great deal to look forward to as our city continues to grow and prosper. Vaughan’s 25th anniversary provides us with a great opportunity to reflect, pay tribute and give thanks for the people, places and things that truly make Vaughan the place to be. I look forward to celebrating this incredible milestone with the entire community in 2016. This is our city – let’s celebrate it together!”
-Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua
