The all-in-one guide highlights collection days, sorting tips and more!

Whether on your fridge, in a drawer or posted on your garage wall, keep the 2022 Waste Collection Schedule (PDF) in reach for everything you need to know about waste services in Vaughan. The City of Vaughan is breaking down what this all-in-one guide has to offer, including collection days, sorting tips, waste reduction initiatives and more.

Collection days

The new schedule offers a year at a glance of weekly and seasonal changes to services, including Double-Up Days and leaf and yard waste collection – all on one page. You’ll never miss a collection day with this handy! Remember, garbage is collected every other week. Blue box recycling and green bin organics are collected every week. Have all waste set out curbside by 7 a.m. on your regularly scheduled collection day. Collectors will not return for items set out late. Please note, collection times may be impacted during winter weather conditions.

As Vaughan has many snowy days ahead, the City is reminding you of proper waste set out throughout the winter months. Set waste bins back from the curb approximately one metre on the right-hand side of the driveway (when facing the home). Bins should never be placed on top of or behind snowbanks. This allows crews to safely collect waste and for the City to clear the snow effectively in residential areas.

Sorting tips

The City is a leader in waste management, and Vaughan’s early commitment to York Region’s SM4RT Living Plan (Waste Management Master Plan) strengthens that promise. That’s why the 2022 schedule also features the addition of the “Sort it right!” section, highlighting what items belong in the garbage, blue box or green bin. Properly sorting waste not only helps reduce the amount of garbage sent to landfills but also keeps collection days running smoothly.

If you’re still unsure where a waste item belongs, download the free Recycle Coach app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. The app provides waste-less tips and helps determine what items belong in what bins. You can also use the City’s online What Goes Where tool to easily search and learn what goes where.

Waste reduction

The schedule highlights the City’s commitment to waste reduction through the inclusion of Curbside Giveaway Days, which encourage reuse, build a stronger community and contribute to a more sustainable city. Check your schedule for the 2022 dates of Curbside Giveaway Days and a link to information on how to participate. The schedule also provides details on safely recycling household hazardous waste, such as batteries, and e-waste (electronic waste), including cellphones, computers and speakers.

Visit vaughan.ca/WasteCalendar for blue and yellow versions of the 2022 Waste Collection Schedule and see your personalized collection days based on your zone.

The City is temporarily pausing the purchase of new blue boxes, green bins and garbage tags from community centres during the facility closures. To purchase blue boxes, green bins, kitchen containers or garbage tags online, visit vaughan.ca/ServiceVaughan. Sign up and pay through Service Vaughan and schedule a delivery for the bins or garbage tags to arrive right to your door. Home delivery fees are $2.50 per bin. You can also exchange damaged City-issued blue boxes and green bins through Service Vaughan.
