For over 40 years, Mario G. Racco has been a devoted servant to the City of Vaughan, dedicating his career to fostering growth and unity within the community. Beginning as the youngest elected member on Vaughan Council in 1982, Mario went on to serve as a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) in 2003, representing Thornhill, and held the distinction of being the Founding President of the Brownridge Ratepayers Association.
Mario's indelible mark on Vaughan is visible through his tireless dedication to a multitude of initiatives that have enriched the city and enhanced its growth prospects. Most notably, as the Founder and Chair of the Board of the Spadina-York Subway Extension, Mario was the driving force behind the subway extension into Vaughan and York Region. This project significantly improved accessibility and opportunities for the community, transforming Vaughan into a thriving hub.
Together with his wife Sandra, Mario actively contributes to Vaughan's vibrant cultural scene by supporting programs such as the Vaughan International Music Festival, We Are One – Canada, Philippine Heritage Band Vaughan, Vaughan International Film Festival, and various other events. As a staunch advocate for senior activities and initiatives, Mario’s efforts celebrate Vaughan's diverse community while ensuring the city remains an inclusive and prosperous home for all its residents.
