Business Licence and Permit Identification Requirements

In order to operate in the City of Vaughan, some businesses, professions and events require a licence or permit, as listed on the Business Licensing and Permits page.

What identification do I need to apply for a business licence or permit?

In general, applicants must provide identification that demonstrates that the applicant is at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in Canada; this identification is required for all directors and officers in a corporation, partners in a partnership and sole proprietors.  This may be one or several pieces of identification.

The following identification can be used to prove age and employment eligibility:

  • a Canadian passport
  • a Canadian Citizenship card
  • a Canadian Permanent Resident card
  • an Ontario Photo card in combination with a Social Insurance Number ("SIN") card
  • a Canadian driver's licence issued by a province or territory with a SIN card
  • a Canadian Indian status card
  • a Canadian work permit in conjunction with Canadian government-issued photo identification,  such as an Ontario Photo card or Canadian driver's licence

Additional combinations of Canadian government-issued identification can be used as well.

Note that different licences and permits may have various additional requirements, listed in the respective by-laws in the By-law Library and corresponding application.
