Black History Month
The City of Vaughan will commemorate Black History Month on Tuesday, February 20 from 6pm to 8pm at Vaughan City Hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Drive.
This year the City of Vaughan joins the celebration of Black History Month with the theme “Black Excellence in the Arts”, honouring the vibrant culture, legacy, and impactful contributions of Black Canadians in shaping Canada’s arts, culture and history.
The evening's program will include:
- Master of Ceremonies –Bakari Savage, Anchor/Reporter for CP24
- Official remarks by Mayor Steven Del Duca
- Keynote address by Dr. Emilie Jabouin, a multi-disciplinary scholar, dance artist and founder of Do Gwe research, performance and production company
- African Talking Drum performance by Hi-Life, a local African music, percussion, and orchestra group
- Afro-Caribbean dance by DOAHL Academy
- African Ancestral Acknowledgement and Black National Anthem performed by Jaylah A’Drianna Hall, visual and spoken word artist, published writer, and the CEO of The Cre8tor House
- Pouring of Libations led by Lee Miller from the York Region Alliance of African Canadian Communities
- Featuring black-owned community booths
Light refreshments will be served.
