Cultural Heritage Preservation
The City of Vaughan is committed to the preservation, conservation, rehabilitation, restoration and management of heritage resources through Heritage Conservation Planning. Heritage resources include properties, structures, buildings, districts and landscapes.
- Individual Designation under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act.
- Heritage Conservation District (HCD) under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act.
- Properties of Architectural and Historical Significance (LSHS) are not designated but have protection against demolition under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act.
Cultural Heritage staff provide expert advice to the Heritage Vaughan Committee and City Council on the retention, rehabilitation and protection of heritage resources along with their integration into new developments.

Where sites of historical significance have been identified by the City of Vaughan, Cultural Heritage staff work with property owners to provide information, evaluate applications for alterations and demolition under the Ontario Heritage Act.
The City of Vaughan recommends that owners discuss any proposal to alter designated properties as early as possible to ensure a smooth process.
