Frequently Asked Questions

Answer

The Citizen Survey is used to gather input from residents on service delivery and operations, quality of life, financial sustainability, and public information and engagement. The City of Vaughan values the feedback and opinions of its residents, and that data contributes to measuring the impact of City services, service delivery improvements and future planning initiatives.

Answer

The City conducts citizen surveys to understand the evolving needs and desires of the growing community. By maintaining a consistent pulse on Vaughan’s inevitable shifts and developments, the City can continue improving and delivering service excellence.

Conducting citizen surveys is also an effective way to examine the City’s performance in comparison to other municipalities and see how Vaughan’s service offerings and delivery measures up to similar cities.

Answer

A third-party agency will randomly select 20,000 Vaughan households to receive an invitation in the mail to complete the survey. Each invitation will include a link and unique access code, ensuring residents can only participate in the survey once. Residents who prefer to complete the survey by phone or require an alternate format can call the 1-800 number provided in the invitation to leave a message asking for assistance. The mail-to-online methodology is a growing best practice that produces better response rates and offers all households an equal chance of inclusion in the research.

Answer

Residents who do not receive a mailed invitation can complete a separate open-link (no access code required) version of the survey until Tuesday, Nov. 5. Contact accessibility@vaughan.ca if you require an alternate format to complete this survey.

Answer

The City created two versions of the survey to ensure we gather statistically sound data, while also providing an opportunity for all residents to participate.

The survey accessed through the mailed invitation is designed to reflect a statistically accurate representation of Vaughan residents among the respondents. To achieve this, 20,000 households will be randomly selected to receive an invitation in the mail to complete the 2024 Citizen Survey.

The online open-link survey is not designed to be statistically accurate, but does allow all residents to voluntarily voice their opinions about quality of life, satisfaction with services and issues facing the city.

While the results of the two surveys will be kept separate for statistical purposes, all results will be analyzed and published on this page.

Answer

The Citizen Survey is typically conducted every two years by a third-party agency. The 2024 survey is being administered by Ipsos. By leveraging a market research company, the City can collect data with a high degree of statistical confidence, meaning the results are an accurate representation of the Vaughan population.
