Community Engagement

Since the project began, collecting feedback from the public has been an important component of the ongoing design process. Engaging with the community to determine their needs and desires for the new park has helped shape the District Park Project in Block 18 to date.

Block 18 District Park - Online Self-Guided Public Open House - July/August 2021

Based on community feedback received, the City confirmed which amenities will be included within the park and moved into the next phase of the project - developing the layout and landscape design concepts. Two potential park concepts were shared through an online self-guided Public Open House which ran from July 29 to Aug. 19, 2021 seeking citizen thoughts and feedback receiving input from 272 participants.

Staff have finalized a concept based on the feedback received. The final design for the park will respond to the growing demands of the community to ensure the City will continue to provide inclusive and engaging experiences that include flexible spaces and updated amenities. The new designs for the park will also respond to public requests for facilities that offer inclusive experiences regardless of gender, age and ability.
