School Engagement

As a continuation of the public outreach program, in early 2021 the project team took the initiative to reach out to local schools in the vicinity of the new park through an innovative student engagement program where staff gained valuable insight from teachers and students.

Students were provided an opportunity to help by filling out a workbook that gave the City input on how to design the new park.

The City collected approximately 185 responses from students attending these three schools:

  • Dr. Roberta Bondar Public School
  • Écoleintermediaire catholique Renaissance
  • Romeo Dallaire Public School

A sample of the workbook can be downloaded (PDF).

This infographic summarizes the key findings learned through the school engagement and was shared with teachers and students who contributed.

Throughout the course of the public and school outreach it was determined through key findings that there was a desire to have the park be accessible, provide opportunities for gathering and socialization, provide a diverse array of programs, protect and enhance the natural woodlot, and provide an overall expression of the park being unique to the area.
