Beat the heat at one of Vaughan's community centres, pools or splash pads
The heat is on as
summer officially arrives today. A heat warning remains in effect for Vaughan
and much of southern Ontario, and while it is expected to break for a few days,
the hot weather is set to return soon.
The City is reminding
residents there are many ways to beat the heat –
- Remain indoors in cool, well-ventilated areas
- Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing made of breathable fabric
- If you do not have air conditioning in your home, go to places that do, including shopping malls, local libraries and community centres
- Visit a public pool or splash pad
- When using fans, keep a window or door open to bring in cooler air from outside
Vaughan’s 10 community
centres offer air-conditioned public spaces, washrooms and change rooms as well
as water-bottle filling stations. They will be open during regularly scheduled
hours. A full list of community centres and their hours of operation can be
found at vaughan.ca.
The City’s indoor pools and splash pads offer a great way to
stay cool. Five of the indoor pools are open – Al Palladini Community Centre,
Dufferin Clark Community Centre, Father E. Bulfon Community Centre, North
Thornhill Community Centre and Vellore Village Community Centre. Vaughan has 17
outdoor splash pads which are open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Vaughan Animal
Services
is also advising people to never leave a pet in a car or unattended outside on
hot days.
