Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua has issued the following statement.

On behalf of the City of Vaughan, I offer my deepest sympathy to the people of Orlando, Florida in the wake of yesterday’s attack at a LGBTQ nightclub.

As Mayor of the City of Vaughan, I condemn this senseless act of hatred that took so many innocent lives.

Vaughan is a city committed to promoting tolerance, understanding and mutual respect. Diversity is one of our greatest strengths. It is our goal to foster a community that is welcoming and inclusive. Today we joined with LGBTQ residents across our region and raised the rainbow flag at City Hall. It will fly at half-mast out of respect for the victims.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those lost in the violent attack in Orlando and those who were injured. We share in their grief and extend our heartfelt condolences.
