Celebrate our nation
Grants available to not-for-profit groups interested in hosting an event for Canada 150
In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday, the City of Vaughan is making $10,000 available to eligible not-for-profit organizations and community groups to host their own celebratory event or initiative. Grants are being awarded in amounts of up to $500. Applications are being accepted until May 30 and are available online at vaughan.ca/Canada150.
Canada’s sesquicentennial is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion to recognize the history and achievements of our great nation. Local organizations are encouraged to get involved to mark this special year. Vaughan is a vibrant, multicultural community defined by the people who contribute to their city and make a difference. The grant program highlights and supports the citizens, volunteers, groups and organizations that generously give their time to create opportunity, inclusivity and enjoyment in the city.
The grant money is donated by the Spirit of Generosity, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua’s charitable fund. It is supported by the annual Mayor’s Gala and Charity Golf Classic, and has benefitted more than 100 not-for-profit organizations that provide essential services to Vaughan and beyond.
QUOTE
“One of
our greatest strengths is our Canadian spirit. The 150th anniversary of Confederation gives us a chance to
come together and celebrate all the wonderful things about our community and
our country. Service groups and local not-for-profits are the heartbeat of our
city and we are blessed to have citizens who believe strongly in the power of
giving back. I have committed $10,000 from the Spirit of Generosity fund to
give these organizations an opportunity to share in the celebration of a
lifetime. This is what being a Canadian is all about – showing our pride and
patriotism, and demonstrating our love and respect for this
great nation we all call home.”
