Celebrate Recreation and Parks Month with Vaughan!

Free programming offered throughout the month of June

June is Recreation and Parks Month, and the City of Vaughan is celebrating with 30 days of free activities at Vaughan community centres for all ages and interests. From crafting and coding to slime making, swimming and (so many!) sports, there's something fun for everyone! Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

Program highlights include:
  • free access to Vaughan Fitness Centres for everyone 13 years old and over on Wednesdays.
  • meet and greets with our summer camp team, featuring camp activities for children and on-the-spot registration assistance for parents.
  • crafts for parents and children, plus amateur hour painting for adults (tea and treats included).
  • Vaughan Playhouse Open House to meet the teachers, see the classroom and play.
  • National Indigenous Peoples Day on Tuesday, June 21, which will feature a tour of Kipling Gallery featuring Inuit sculptures.
  • fitness classes (Zumba, Tabata, barre, Pilates, CIRC-HIIT) plus adaptive gymnastics and yoga for individuals with special needs.
  • recreational swimming and sport, featuring competitive lifesaving stations.
  • code robots and create Roblox video games.
  • recreational sports and access to game rooms featuring billiards, foosball, air hockey, ping pong, Wii or xBox.
  • guided tours of the new Vaughan Studios & Event Space.
  • opening of Thornhill Outdoor Pool for the summer season.
  • the launch of the Vaughan Celebrates Concerts in the Park series on Wednesday, June 8.

RecAssist donations
Help someone in need enjoy the physical, social and mental health benefits of recreation! When registering for a free activity, consider donating to RecAssist, the City's fee assistance program which helps subsidize the cost of swim lessons and recreation programs for low-income families in Vaughan. An optional donation will be available at checkout when registering for your program online at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

On Saturday, June 11 the City is hosting its annual Spinathon and Yoga in the Park for RecAssist. This annual fundraiser is held at Maple Community Centre, with spin classes taking place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and yoga from 11 a.m. until noon.

Proceeds raised will be donated to RecAssist, the City's fee assistance program, which helps subsidize the cost of swim lessons and recreation programs for low-income families in Vaughan. Separate registration for each hour of the event is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com, along with a minimum donation amount of $25 per hour of participation. Tax receipts will be provided for donations over $25. Non-members welcome.

Selfie contest
Post a selfie of you and your family completing an activity on Instagram using #JRPMVaughan and tag @recvaughan (if your account is public) or DM for a chance to have your picture shared. You can also email your selfie to recpromos@vaughan.ca. The post with the most engagement (likes/comments/shares) by Thursday, June 30 at 6 p.m. will win a Family Recreation Activity Pass that can be used at any of the City’s five arenas, 10 swimming pools and gymnasiums, and six fitness centres.
