Celebrating 'The Art of the Possible' at 2013 Mayor's Gala

April 18, 2013

The 2013 Mayor’s Gala, which has helped more than 75 community groups in the past two years, will celebrate ‘The Art of the Possible’ by showcasing made-in-Vaughan talent.

“I am very proud of what we have been able to achieve in Vaughan, and the Mayor’s Gala is a celebration of our success,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “The Mayor’s Gala is an evening that highlights generosity, compassion and character, as well as showcasing meaningful and captivating entertainment which will be performed by some of Vaughan’s most creative and talented artists.  This year’s theme – The Art of the Possible – speaks to the future of our community and I believe that the possibilities are truly endless.”

The emcee for the 2013 Mayor’s gala will be Rick Campanelli, co-host of Entertainment Tonight (ET) Canada, with the event taking place at the Paramount Conference and Event Venue on Thursday, May 2. The evening will feature incredible artists including Dia, a Vaughan songstress who performs in 24 languages; Dancers and choreographers Melissa Mitro and Adam Lo Papa, both featured on CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance Canada; Art and Soul Dance Company of Kleinburg; accordion master Claudio Santaluce; Zero Gravity Circus and  spoken word artist Marshall Jones. The presenting sponsor for the Mayor’s Gala is Cortel Group/Four Valleys Excavating & Grading/Expo City Condos.

As the premier fundraising event in the City of Vaughan, the proceeds from the Mayor’s Gala support the many not-for-profit and community organizations that provide essential services to the residents of Vaughan. Over the past two years, the proceeds from the Gala have gone to help a wide range of service groups that cater to youth, seniors, people with special needs, women’s centres, special education schools and sports groups.

“These groups are at the heart of what makes Vaughan a caring and compassionate place and define the spirit of community that exists in our City,” said Mayor Bevilacqua. “They are providing essential services, programs and activities that benefit a people who, through no fault of their own may be facing challenges and are in need of assistance. All of these organizations play an important role in shaping and building our City, and by nurturing and supporting them we are contributing to the quality of life Vaughan.”
