City of Vaughan
Enjoy Culture Days virtual events until Sunday, Oct. 24

Vaughan is a city that recognizes and honours its different heritages and traditions from around the world. This year, the City of Vaughan once again will play host to Culture Days with virtual events taking place until Sunday, Oct. 24. This free, national event brings the community together to celebrate diversity, artistic and cultural endeavours and the spirit of togetherness.

This annual celebration has something for everyone, from exploring the McMichael Canadian Art Collection virtually to experiencing the diverse sounds and culture of the city from the comfort of home and more. Please note: The City is not holding any in-person events related to Culture Days. Events are being run by third parties.

Upcycling is the most effective way to combat waste and share resources within your community. This workshop breaks down the importance of upcycling materials for creation. Bring all kinds of garbage and we will make a composition together. Participants will have creative control over their work to create a piece of art with the materials in their own home/community. Presented by artist Alysha Rocca. For ages 10 years old and above. Session will be hosted live on Zoom. Register on Eventbrite.

The Social Bubble Art Installation by Alysha Rocca
Civic Centre Resource Library, 2191 Major Mackenzie Dr.
September to November 2021
Mondays to Thursdays: 9 a.m.- 9 p.m.
Fridays: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The Social Bubble is a public art installation speaking to the resilience of our community and how artists are responding to the global pandemic. It is composed of art pieces encapsulated by recycled clear plastic. The sculpture includes pieces of art from local artists, responding to how COVID-19 has impacted their creative life. Every piece of plastic in this sculpture is recycled. Recycled plastic is important to this structure because it reduces waste in our community and repurposes objects into fine art. This year, World Clean Up Day was on Sept. 18, 2021 and the Social Bubble encourages others to look at their waste and recycle or repurpose materials into art pieces. Art is essential. Art has maintained a life through centuries and is prominent all over the globe.
