Celebrating Vaughan’s Public Works professionals!
Join in the National
Public Works Week fun
Ready and resilient.
Those two words are the 2022 National Public Works Week theme, and they are
also the best description of the City of Vaughan’s Public Works professionals.
Today marks the start of a week dedicated to celebrating the City’s more than
400 dedicated individuals who continue to serve the Vaughan community, remain
resilient throughout the global COVID-19 pandemic and provide seamless service
to residents.
You are
invited to join in the celebrations! On Saturday, May 21, stop by the
drive-thru Environmental Day at the Joint Operations Centre, located at 2800
Rutherford Rd. Drop off textiles, such as clothing, for the donation bin,
batteries and electronics for safe disposal, paper for shredding and take home up
to three free bags of mulch on behalf of the City in recognition of this significant
week.
Each day
during the week, keep an eye out for a new video of Public Works staff as part
of the Vaughan, At Your
Service series
– a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make Vaughan the place to live,
work and play. The videos will be posted on the City’s YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn channels. Additionally,
you are invited to visit the City’s new Women in Public Works
webpage,
where five women from Public Works share their experiences and passion for their
work in this field.
The National Public Works Week flag was raised at the Joint Operations Centre and at Vaughan City Hall on Monday, May 16. This evening, City Hall will also be illuminated in orange to recognize the week.
Enhancing
operational performance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement is
central to the mission of Vaughan’s Public Works employees. Their achievements
continue to receive national recognition for innovative thinking, the
development of new best practices and a commitment to Service Excellence. National
Public Works Week reinforces the City’s commitment to Service Excellence across
all parts of the organization, as outlined in the 2018-2022 Term of
Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan.

“The City of Vaughan’s history of
excellence in Public Works is experienced by citizens across our community.
Programs such as the updated and proactive Tree Maintenance Strategy, the high-quality
winter maintenance operations using artificial intelligence and the blue box
and green bin exchange and delivery program to keep citizens and staff safe
during COVID-19 showcase the amazing customer service Public Works staff
deliver daily. Each day, Public Works staff play an important role in our
continuous efforts to help the City run efficiently and effectively. I want to

“The
2022 National Public Works Week theme could not better describe the people who
make up the City of Vaughan’s Public Works team. For the past two years,
especially, these hard-working individuals haven’t stopped demonstrating what
it means to be ‘Ready and Resilient’ by showing up and providing important and
quality services to keep Vaughan running in the best shape possible. This week
is a time to recognize and celebrate the staff across all departments in Public
Works for everything they do each and every day – I am truly thankful.”
