Check your mailbox: Vaughan’s final property tax bills have been sent
Instalment due dates
are July 28, Aug. 29 and Sept. 28
The City of
Vaughan’s 2022 final residential and non-residential property tax bills have
been mailed out to all property owners. Payment due dates are as follows:
- First instalment – Thursday, July 28
- Second instalment – Monday, Aug. 29
- Third instalment – Wednesday, Sept. 28
If you do not receive
your tax bill in the mail, contact the City immediately by phone at
905-832-2281 or by email at accessvaughan@vaughan.ca. Failure to receive a
tax bill does not exempt you from paying property taxes – late payment penalties
will be added.
PAYMENT OPTIONS
Be advised all City
facilities are now cashless. However, there are still many easy and convenient ways
property owners can pay their property tax bills. Payment options include:
- Drop-off box: Cheque with tax stub can be placed in marked boxes at each entrance of Vaughan City Hall. Cash should not be dropped off in these boxes.
- Financial institutions: Either in-person, through the bank machine, online or via telephone.
- In-person at Vaughan City Hall: Payments can only be made by cheque or debit card.
- Pre-authorized payment plans: A six-instalment or a 12-instalment option is offered for the 2022 tax year.
- Mailed: Cheque made payable to the City of Vaughan and sent in the return envelope enclosed with the tax stub.
- Post-dated cheques: Cheques that correspond with the amounts and due dates printed on the tax stubs.
TAX RELIEF PROGRAMS
The City also continues to operate tax relief programs for eligible citizens,
including:
- the Elderly Home-Owners Tax Assistance (PDF) program – a tax rebate provided by the City to elderly homeowners who qualify. The 2022 program has now closed. Check vaughan.ca/PropertyTax to learn more about how to apply for the 2023 tax year.
- the Seniors, Low-Income Seniors and Low-Income Disabled Persons Property Tax Deferral program (PDF). Applications for the 2022 program will close on Friday, Sept. 30. Visit vaughan.ca/PropertyTax for more information on how to apply.
BREAKING
DOWN THE TAX BILL
The property tax bill may come in
a City of Vaughan envelope, but less than 30 cents of every dollar stays with
the City to provide all programs and services. Here is a breakdown of how
residential property taxes are
allocated:
- 49 cents to York Region
- 28 cents to City of Vaughan
- 22 cents to local school boards (Province of Ontario for education purposes)
- One cent to the Hospital Precinct Levy
Municipal services in
Vaughan are provided by two tiers of government – the City of Vaughan
and York Region. The City retains approximately $1,600 of an average $6,000 annual property
tax bill to support critical services that residents rely on each day,
including Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service; public works and road services;
waste management; infrastructure replacement; maintenance of City facilities;
city planning and development; Building Code enforcement; and by-law and
compliance. These services and more remain important and operational throughout
the global COVID-19 pandemic.
