Nov. 21, 2013
The City of Vaughan and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 905 have reached a collective agreement that will run from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2016.
“To make an organization successful, it takes leadership, a clear vision, strong values, service excellence and, of course, great people,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “I am pleased the City and the Union were able to reach this agreement. I have great respect for the work all City employees do. Their commitment to service excellence, teamwork, integrity and respect contributes each day towards making Vaughan a vibrant and dynamic city.”
The terms of the collective agreement include reasonable wage increases, benefit enhancements and amendments to the language that will enable the parties to achieve operational efficiencies and better working standards.
“This contract reflects the high level of professionalism provided by all of our CUPE staff,” said Interim City Manager Barbara Cribbett. “It is the result of a collaborative effort between both parties to address a number of issues that will support the City in achieving its strategic initiatives of service, staff and organizational excellence in a financially responsible way, while, at the same time, supporting our staff.”
“CUPE and the City worked collaboratively to come up with an agreement that is beneficial to both parties. This is a good deal for our members and for the City,” said CUPE Chair Ted Howell. “The parties have worked on developing a stronger relationship that is based on trust, mutual respect and a common vision of providing the best service to the citizens of Vaughan.”
The City employs 578 full-time CUPE employees who provide a range of professional, administrative, technical and field-type services.
