City Offices Closed for Benjamin Vaughan Day

City of Vaughan municipal offices, including Vaughan City Hall and the Joint Operations Centre, will be closed for Benjamin Vaughan Day on Monday, Aug. 4. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
In December 2013, Vaughan Council passed a resolution that the statutory holiday in August known as the civic holiday be renamed Benjamin Vaughan Day.
The City of Vaughan was given its name by Lt.-Gov. John Simcoe in honour of the British diplomat, Benjamin Vaughan. In 1783, Vaughan represented British interests as co-negotiator of the Treaty of Paris that ended the American Revolutionary War, and was instrumental in keeping Upper Canada, which was later to become Ontario, under British rule.
Vaughan community centres and swimming pools will be closed on Monday, Aug. 4, with the exception of the Thornhill Outdoor Pool, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Vaughan Animal Services will be closed on Monday, Aug. 4. Vaughan Public Libraries will be closed on Sunday, Aug. 3 and Monday, Aug. 4.
Waste collection will not be affected and will continue as regularly scheduled.
