City of Vaughan Honours Outstanding Artists at Annual Awards Presentation

​Recipients of the fifth annual Recognizing Arts Vaughan Excellence (RAVE) Awards were honoured at Vaughan Council on Oct. 29. Established in 2008, the RAVE Awards recognize the contributions made by individuals, businesses and organizations towards enhancing the visual, performing and literary arts in Vaughan.

Awards were presented in three disciplines – visual arts, performing arts and literary arts – with nominations open in four sub-categories: patron of the arts, art educator/mentor, practicing artist and rising star. All nominations were reviewed by a panel of professionals representing all disciplines.
This year’s winners include:

Visual Arts
  • Florin Hategan, Practicing Artist
  • Sabrina Cappelli, Rising Star
Performing Arts
  • Sarah Forestieri, Rising Star
  • Goldirose Hotz, Rising Star
Literary Arts:
  • Susanne Amedeo, Art Educator/Mentor
  • Jordi Klein, Rising Star
The awards ceremony also included the presentation of the Award for Higher Arts Education, established by the City of Vaughan to provide financial assistance to Vaughan students pursuing a post-secondary education in the arts. This year’s recipients were Polina Vassilieva and Helen Geng, who both received $3,000 to be used toward their post-secondary education in the arts.
