Vaughan Council today announced its first annual toy drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish 2010 program. Mayor Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council invite local schools, residents and businesses to take part in the drive by dropping off a new, unwrapped toy at any one of the designated locations across the City.

“We are very fortunate to live and work in a City that takes pride in its quality of life and its strong sense of community. It is important, especially during the holiday season, that we come together as a community to assist families across the GTA. The spirit of generosity is a defining trait of our City,” said Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of Vaughan. “In 2009, The Wish program helped more than 74,000 children in need of assistance. Our support and toy donations will help put a smile on the faces of many children during the holidays.”

New, unwrapped toys for children aged newborn to 18 years-of-age will be accepted at Vaughan community centres, libraries and fire halls until December 20, 2010. Toys also can be dropped off at the Vaughan Civic Centre through to noon, December 23, 2010.

“I am proud of the support that City staff have shown for the toy drive. Their participation in this community effort is much appreciated,” said City Manager Clayton Harris.

This year marks the 44th Annual CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. The CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish is one of the largest distributors of toys to those in need in the Greater Toronto Area.
