Dec. 23, 2013
Last updated at 11:30 a.m.

The City of Vaughan has opened warming centres to accommodate residents who remain without power as a result of the ice storm.

The centres are open in the following locations:

  • Dufferin Clark Community Centre, 1441 Clark Ave. W., Concord
  • Maple Community Centre, 10190 Keele St., Maple
  • Vellore Village Community Centre, 1 Villa Royale Ave., Woodbridge

Pets are welcome at the Maple Community Centre.

The City urges residents to stay indoors if possible. If you must go outdoors, stay away from ice-covered trees and downed hydro wires. And please check in with your neighbours during the power outage, especially those who are elderly.

PowerStream anticipates all power will be restored by end of day today but there may be several pockets where additional work will be required. For updates, please call PowerStream at 1-877-777-3810.

The City continues to respond to calls about downed trees and branches on a priority basis, focusing on those that pose hazards to people and property first. Downed trees can be reported to 905-832-2281 (press 0 for dispatch). The City is receiving a heavy volume of calls.

The City thanks residents for their patience and co-operation during this major ice storm.
