Get your workout gear and bathing suits ready – the City of Vaughan is preparing for a summer of outdoor fun and fitness as the Province of Ontario prepares to move York Region – and Vaughan – into Step 1 of its Roadmap to Reopening Ontario!

Starting on Monday, June 14, the City will be offering outdoor in-person fitness classes on a modified schedule at Al Palladini, Dufferin Clark, Father E. Bulfon, North Thornhill and Vellore Village community centres. The Thornhill outdoor pool will also be opening that day for recreational and length swimming and aquafitness. Pre-registration is required for all fitness classes and swims.

Outdoor in-person fitness classes

Fitness classes will be offered Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. All classes are 45 minutes in length. Participants are required to arrive 15-minutes prior to their class start time to check in.

Classes are limited to 10 participants and physical distancing protocols will be in place. Participants must bring their own mats for floor exercises and come dressed in proper workout attire. Pre-registration is required for all fitness classes and can be done at vaughan.perfectmind.com. Walk-ins will not be permitted. Registration will begin on Thursday, June 10 at 8:30 a.m. Residents can register four days and two hours in advance of the scheduled fitness class. Non-residents can register one day and two hours in advance of the scheduled fitness class.

Vaughan Fitness memberships remain on hold for the duration of the Provincially mandated fitness centre closure; members and non-members must pay a single class fee of $5 (plus HST). A non-resident surcharge of 10 per cent is applicable. Programming will include CIRC-HIIT high-intensity interval training, circuit-style workouts and total-body conditioning. For details and direct links to registration, visit vaughan.ca/fitness. For assistance registering, email RecCSD@vaughan.ca or call Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281.

Due to the nature of outdoor classes, they may be cancelled in response to rain, extreme heat or unsafe weather conditions. All classes will be cancelled by 8:45 a.m. and participants will be emailed or called. Participants can cancel their fitness class reservation up to 24 hours prior to the start of the class by emailing RecCSD@vaughan.ca. A full credit/refund will be issued without penalty.

Online fitness classes

In addition to in-person classes, fitness continues online. New sessions livestreamed by Vaughan Fitness instructors via Zoom start on Monday, June 14 and will run until Friday, July 2. Pre-registration is required at vaughan.perfectmind.com.

Break a sweat at home with classes in Zumba, total-body conditioning – regular and modified for older adults – HIIT, Pilates, yoga and ballet barre. Classes run Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., and Tuesdays to Thursdays 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
