Members of the community came together on Wednesday, June 19 to celebrate the official opening of West Wind Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and live entertainment.

“The City of Vaughan prides itself on the quality, functionality and overall beauty of our parks.  We are committed to fostering a healthy community and neighbourhood parks play an important role in the realization of this goal,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “Enjoying a day at the park with family and friends and exploring Vaughan’s picturesque landscape are the kind of experiences that help create strong communities and memories that last a lifetime. The new West Wind Park is a vibrant urban green space where residents can lead active and healthy lifestyles, while enjoying the outdoors.”

West Wind Park features accessible junior and senior playgrounds, an irrigated soccer field, full-size basketball court, lit tennis courts, a circular path for walkers and a semi-covered shade structure. There are also benches and picnic tables for people to use.

“I am so pleased this growing community is now home to a new park," said Ward 3 Councillor Rosanna DeFrancesca. "I am quite certain West Wind Park, with all its amenities and features, will be put to good use by the community for years to come. It will enhance the quality of life for families who live in this neighbourhood."

The theme “wind and weather” is carried throughout the park, including the playground, with information panels, a wind vane, colours and paving textures.

West Wind Park is at 150 Cityview Blvd., west of Highway 400 and north of Major Mackenzie Drive. It is 2.6 hectares (6.7 acres).
