Congratulations Andrew Wiggins!
Hometown Hero makes NBA history as first Canadian chosen as Rookie of the Year
Vaughan’s Andrew Wiggins has become the first Canadian to be named as the NBA Rookie of the Year. Today, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council are offering their congratulations to the 20-year-old basketball star, who grew up in Thornhill and attended Vaughan Secondary School.
In 2014, the City declared June 26 as Andrew Wiggins Day to honour the young basketball player when he was chosen first overall in the NBA Draft. Wiggins was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers before being acquired by the Minnesota Timberwolves in a trade.
