Steve Kanellakos introduced to staff and community

Vaughan’s new City Manager was welcomed by staff and members of the community today at a special event held at City Hall. Steve Kanellakos brings more than three decades of extensive municipal experience to Vaughan serving most recently as the City of Ottawa’s Deputy City Manager of City Operations.

Mr. Kanellakos will be responsible for strengthening Vaughan’s vision and driving forward the strategy to become a world-class city. The new City Manager has a strong track record of professional achievements and believes in giving back to the community. He has served on a number of boards and committees, including the United Way and Crime Prevention Ottawa.

QUICK FACTS 
  • Mr. Kanellakos held a number of positions at the City of Ottawa, including Acting City Manager.
  • He led several significant reorganizations in Ottawa resulting in budget reductions and better alignment of service delivery with staff accountability.
  • He led significant public-private partnerships including one with the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club to build a refrigerated outdoor ice surface in front of City Hall, and a partnership to develop a performing arts theatre in the east end of Ottawa.
  • His career includes 15 years in municipal police services with the Gloucester Police Service and the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police.
  • He has been a member of numerous boards and committees including United Way, Crime Prevention Ottawa, Aboriginal Working Group and Carleton University Advisory Committee for School of Public Policy.
  • He holds a master of public administration degree from Carleton University.
