Designing safer streets through Vaughan’s Complete Streets Guidelines

Road in Vaughan

We have a plan to make Vaughan’s streets safer! Through the City of Vaughan’s Complete Streets Guidelines, a framework will be developed to better accommodate all road users, including people who walk, bike, take public transit or drive. It will also help guide the planning, design, operation and maintenance of the City’s street network to create safer and more enjoyable spaces for all who travel through Vaughan.

A complete street is defined as a street that is safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities, and all modes of transportation. The Complete Streets Guidelines will help City planners and developers incorporate the proper necessities, such as plantings, streetlights and infrastructure, when planning, designing, building or updating Vaughan’s public streets. Once complete, the guidelines will help the City to implement an integrated street network that includes transit connections, active transportation and mobility options, cycling and pedestrian-friendly facilities, accessible and sustainable infrastructure, and safe conditions for all users.

Questions and comments can be submitted to the project team via email at shirley.marsh@vaughan.ca. Feedback can be submitted until Thursday, Oct. 26

Your feedback from previous engagement opportunities has helped inform these draft guidelines. The final guidelines will be presented to Vaughan Council by the end of this year.
