Other options for how to properly dispose of your real tree

With the hustle and bustle of returning back to routines after the holidays, you may have missed Christmas tree collection. Don’t worry – the City of Vaughan is reminding you of other options for properly disposing of your real tree:

  • Drop it off at York Region Waste Depots that accept yard waste (fees apply). The Vaughan location is at 130 McCleary Crt. Visit york.ca/WasteDepots for more information.
  • Save it for leaf and yard waste collection in the spring. The first 2022 leaf and yard waste collection takes place the week of April 19. For the full schedule, check your 2022 Waste Collection Schedule (PDF).

Artificial trees must be bagged and are collected as garbage curbside. Each artificial tree counts as one item toward the three-item limit.

How to exchange or purchase a City-issued blue box or green bin

The City is temporarily pausing the purchase of new blue boxes, green bins and garbage tags from community centres during the facility closures. To purchase blue boxes, green bins, kitchen containers or garbage tags online, visit vaughan.ca/ServiceVaughan. Sign up and pay through Service Vaughan and schedule a delivery for the bins or garbage tags to arrive right to your door. Home delivery fees are an additional $3.00 per bin. You can also exchange damaged City-issued blue boxes and green bins through Service Vaughan.

Unsure what items belong in the garbage or what can be recycled? Download the waste reduction app, Recycle Coach, through the Apple App Store or Google Play to help determine what goes where. The app also provides waste-less tips and a personalized collection schedule with optional alerts on what to put at the curb each week.

Winter waste placement

During the winter months, all waste materials must be kept off the road and snowbanks. Where possible, waste should be set out on the right side of the driveway when facing the house, approximately one metre from the curb. Continue to check vaughan.ca/waste for updates and changes to service levels and schedules.
