Do you know someone who is deserving of the Order of Vaughan?
Nominations are open
for the City’s highest civic honour
Do you know someone
who is dedicated to bettering the community? Or a person who advocates for the
community and brings positive change? Nominate them for consideration to the
Order of Vaughan! This award is the highest honour
the City of Vaughan may bestow on an individual who exemplifies extraordinary
citizenship.
The Order of Vaughan was an initiative first launched by Mayor
Maurizio Bevilacqua in 2016 to mark Vaughan’s 25th anniversary. The award was
created to pay tribute to individuals who have made a meaningful impact on
Vaughan’s civic life and have dedicated their time and talent to the city’s
ongoing success. In its first year, 25 recipients were invested in the Order.
In subsequent years – and for 2022 – up to 10 nominees may be eligible to
receive the award. Since its inception, 52 remarkable individuals have been
invested with the Order.
The award recognizes leaders within the following categories:
accessibility; athletics; arts and entertainment; business; education;
environment; equity and diversity; health and wellness; media and
communications; not-for-profit; philanthropy; public service; science and
technology; and spirituality.
To be eligible, a nominee must be a living person at the time of
nomination and have dedicated their time, talent and resources for the
betterment of Vaughan. An individual does not need to reside in Vaughan to be
eligible. Nominations will not be accepted for staff currently employed by the
City of Vaughan or current elected public office holders at the federal,
provincial or municipal levels. Self-nominations will also not be accepted. View
additional eligibility criteria and the online application package at vaughan.ca/OrderOfVaughan.
The nomination period will run until Friday, Aug. 26 at 4:30
p.m. Once closed, the Order of Vaughan Selection Committee will review
nominations and recommend successful candidates to Council for approval. The
2022 Order will be presented by Mayor Bevilacqua and Members of Council during
an official investiture ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 3, at Vaughan City Hall.
Additional details about the ceremony will be posted to vaughan.ca/OrderOfVaughan closer
to the event date.
