City reminds residents to maintain physical distancing when visiting outdoor amenities

As residents enjoy the last few weeks of summer, the City of Vaughan is reminding the community to continue following health and safety protocols when visiting playgrounds, parks, trails and other outdoor amenities.

Everyone has a role to play in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19. Please follow these tips:

  • Continue to practise physical distancing by keeping a safe distance of at least two metres (approximately six feet) away from others.
  • Do not share equipment, including tennis racquets, skateboards or personal water bottles.
  • Avoid visiting parks outside of your local neighbourhood or community.
  • Remember to gather all your belongings before exiting the park.
  • Do not litter and place personal protective equipment, such as gloves or masks, into the garbage bin when done with them.
  • Wash or sanitize your hands before and after visiting a splashpad and playground.
  • Always sneeze and cough into your sleeve or a tissue to prevent further transmission of germs.
  • Keep dogs on a leash if not in a designated off-leash area.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth when outdoors.
  • Do not visit a park if you are not feeling well. Those who feel unwell and believe they have symptoms related to COVID-19 should contact York Region Public Health at 1-800-361-5653 or Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.
  • Keep up with good hand hygiene, including washing your hands often with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
As a reminder, playgrounds are neither supervised nor sanitized – please wash hands before and after use, and keep a safe distance from others.

The City’s By-law and Compliance, Licensing and Permit Services team continues to operate, patrol and respond to all calls on a priority basis. A focus remains on public safety matters including, but not limited to, the Ontario Reopening (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020 – formerly the

Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act Stage 3 Ontario Regulations and Orders, the City’s Emergency Measures By-law and the regulation of the use of local parks and open spaces in Vaughan.

Any violations of the usage requirements can be reported to Access Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or accessvaughan@vaughan.ca. Calls of this nature will be referred to the By-law department for investigation. Fines of $105 to $400 under the Parks By-law and $500 to $100,000 under the Emergency Measures By-law may be laid.
