Explore January’s By-law of the Month
Learn everything you
need to know about Vaughan’s parking regulations
By-laws are put in place to ensure a safe and orderly community for
all who live, work and play in Vaughan. Each month, the City of Vaughan will
explore a different by-law and what it means for you. This month, let’s take a
look at the Parking By-law (PDF).
Here are the basics
In Vaughan, on-street parking is allowed for
up to three hours without a permit between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. – unless otherwise
signed or prohibited by the Parking By-law.
On-street parking is not allowed between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.,
unless the vehicle has a valid permit for that date, time and location.
During snow
events, which are automatically declared when there
are five
centimetres or more of snowfall, vehicles must be parked on driveways to ensure roads are
clear. This allows crews to safely carry out salting and plowing operations,
and ensures the entire street can be cleared. Any vehicle that interferes with
snow clearing may receive a ticket and/or be towed at the owner’s expense
regardless of whether or not it has a valid permit.
In an emergency, every
second matters. Blocking fire routes, fire department connections and fire
hydrants can delay emergency fire response and may also result in a ticket
and/or towing at the owner’s expense.
The Parking By-law is
enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year long. Enforcement officers
patrol the city issuing tickets for parking violations. Parking regulations
may also be enforced by York Regional Police.
Parking permits
- Visitor Parking Permits
- Construction Parking Permits
- Resident Monthly Parking Permits
Parking permit applications are available online
at any time. Permits are electronic and do not need to be printed or displayed.
Permits
are non-transferable between licence plate numbers. Unused permit dates cannot
be cancelled and reissued at a later time if the dates have already passed. You
can pay by Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Debit and any type of debit
credit card are not accepted.
Valid accessible parking permits allow people to
park in accessible spaces, but do not provide exemptions from other parking
violations such as in fire routes. Permits must be valid on the date of parking
and need to be displayed properly with the front of the permit clearly visible
(face-up on the dashboard or attached to a turned-down sun visor).
Vaughan Metropolitan Centre parking pilot
To make your trip to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) even easier, paid
short-term (three-hour maximum) on-street parking is available there on both sides of Apple Mill Road, Buttermill
Avenue and New Park Place. These spots are designed for those visiting the VMC.
Under this pilot project, overnight parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. is not
permitted. For more information, visit myvmc.ca/parking.
