Beat the heat at Thornhill Outdoor Pool open until 7 p.m. this weekend

Environment Canada forecasts hot and humid daytime temperatures of 31 degrees this weekend. The City is reminding residents that all public libraries, community centres, pools and splash pads offer relief from the heat and are open daily. Vaughan’s Thornhill Outdoor Pool is also featuring extended hours, remaining open until 7 p.m. this weekend.

There are many ways you can keep cool during the summer heat:

  • Remain indoors in cool, well-ventilated areas
  • Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing made of breathable fabric
  • If you do not have air conditioning in your home, go to places that do, including shopping malls, local libraries and community centres
  • Visit a public pool or splashpad
  • When using fans, keep a window or door open to bring in cooler air from outside
Vaughan’s 10 community centres offer air-conditioned public spaces, washrooms and change rooms as well as water-bottle-filling stations. A full list of community centres and hours of operation can be found at vaughan.ca.

The City’s pools and splashpads offer a great way to stay cool. Indoor pools are open daily. Vaughan’s Thornhill Outdoor Pool is now open for the summer and features a family change room, shallow wading pool and is wheelchair accessible. The outdoor pool is featuring extended hours so residents can keep cool during this heat wave – pool is open until 7 p.m.  The City also has 17 outdoor splashpads, which are open every day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Vaughan Public Libraries also offer air-conditioned relief from the heat. Visit one of the City’s 10 local branches, open during regular business hours.

Vaughan Animal Services is also advising people to never leave a pet in a car or unattended outside on hot days.
