Family Friendly Holiday Activities At Vaughan Community Centres Available

The City of Vaughan is offering family friendly, drop-in leisure activities at community centres across Vaughan during the holiday break from December 24, 2011 to January 8, 2012.

Free recreational skating, sponsored by Tim Hortons, is available at Al Palladini, Garnet A. Williams and Maple arenas. Free, supervised skate time is also offered at the City’s outdoor rinks. Other recreational programs, available for a nominal fee, include swimming, aquafitness, badminton, ball hockey, basketball, bocce, bowling, soccer, table tennis, volleyball and shinny hockey.

Community centre youth rooms are open to ages 10 to 17 for activities such as foosball, air hockey, pool, ping pong, Xbox and Wii, in addition to recreational youth sports in facility gymnasiums. Vaughan fitness centres, which feature various amenities including cardio and strength training equipment, squash courts, running tracks, and fitness classes such as pilates, zumba, yoga and spinning, are open to residents 14 years and older.

In addition to drop-in activities, a special pre-registered Holiday Happenings day camp is being held at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre for children ages four to 12. Camp activities geared to keep children motivated during the school break include arts and crafts, sports, games, cooking, daily swimming and skating. Spaces are still available. Register online at www.RecEnrollVaughan.ca.

Holiday Recreational Activities schedules are available at all City community centres, and online at www.vaughan.ca. Residents are encouraged to check the times and dates of preferred locations as facilities may have different hours of operation. All facilities are closed Sunday, December 25, 2011 and Sunday, January 1, 2012.
